In article, One approach that has worked for me on some installers is not to extract the files directly, but to allow the installer itself to run in a sandbox. For example, you can use Cameyo (a free application virtualization platform) to 'capture' cmd.exe or a simple file manager. Make sure that the packager knows to virtualize everything before building the package. Then you launch your virtualized cmd/manager, and from within it you execute the installer you are trying to take apart.
Go through a mock install, and when finished your extracted files will be kept in Cameyo's sandbox for cmd/manager. This should work on payware virtualization platforms like VMWare ThinApp and Xenocode. Par4thecourse 30/1/2012, 8:57 น. As soon as I can figure out how to disable the virtual store in Windows 7 and find my program data files quickly, I'll start using other virtual platform programs like the one you mentioned and Sandboxie. It seems like I have to search to figure out the complexities of Windows 7 for almost every program I load. All my old favorties don't operate as seamlessly as they did on older OS.

Please note that Universal Extractor is not intended to be a general purpose archiving program.
It cannot (and never will) create archives, and therefore cannot fully replace archivers such as. What it will do, however, is allow you to extract files from virtually any type of archive, regardless of source, file format, compression method, etc.
The original motivation behind this project was to create an easy, convenient way to extract files from various types of installation packages without the need to remember arcane command line switches or track down separate utilities to handle the unpacking. Over time, and with the encouragement of its many users and the fine folks over on the, it has evolved into a mature and very capable unarchiving utility that many, including myself, find indispensable.
